Freelance French Interpreter

Position Summary

It’s an exciting time for J. J. Keller’s Safe & Smart Driver Training team as we continue to grow and expand our program offerings within the U.S. and Canada. In an effort to support customer demand, we are looking to add a Freelance French Interpreter to our team. In this position, you will provide English to French translation for our driver training services in Canada on an as-needed basis. All written materials will be provided by J. J. Keller. Training will include classroom instruction, range training, road training and a road test, to drivers who are operating commercial motor vehicles. 

 As an Independent Contractor with J. J. Keller, candidates MUST have other clients, as J. J. Keller cannot make up 50% or more of your total annual revenue.

Job Responsibilities

• Conduct English to French translation in a classroom setting; training topics include: DOT regulations, safe vehicle operation, and other topics related to the safe and effective operation of a Commercial Motor Vehicle. Administer tests to determine pass/fail.
• Be available for translation during road tests to evaluate the driver’s ability to effectively and safely manage the vehicle in environments they will encounter on the job. 
• Provide translation for feedback on training effectiveness and opportunities for improvement to training development staff.
• Carry out responsibilities in a fair, ethical and non-discriminatory manner and ensure that staff follows these same guidelines. 
• Enforce and support all company policies and procedures. Fully supports the company's commitment to safety and the environment and strives to maintain a clean, healthy and safe workplace. 

Qualifications

Experience:

• Prior experience in a training environment translating English to French.
• Transportation compliance familiarity a plus, but not required. 

Education:

• High school diploma or GED.

Other Skills/Qualifications:

• Requires travel within Canada and a flexible schedule.
• Bilingual in English/French and Canadian citizenship required.
• Solid verbal, written and presentation skills.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in multiple environments, including office, classroom, and vehicle. 

This position will require travel to various locations throughout Canada.
