Position Summary

J. J. Keller is adding a Data Scientist to our team with to help establish, lead and develop a strategic data capability within the organization, championing the use of data into actionable insights within J. J. Keller’s product and service portfolio.  The Data Scientist will collaborate with J. J. Keller business units, the Portfolio team, Marketing and Information Technology to evaluate product, service and platform opportunities, and will be responsible for creating data models, trends, assumptions and recommendations to deliver business insights and data-driven products and services. This role presents an opportunity to really make a difference and contribute to strategic projects and directly impact our customers. 


This position may work on-site at our Neenah, WI office, or may work remotely from a home-based office within the US with travel to Neenah as needed.  

Job Responsibilities
  • Establishes data strategy for the business units including scope, implementation timeline, and budget.
  • Provides accurate and actionable business-focused insights into products and services.
  • Works with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions.
  • Collaborates with product owners to create solutions for customers using data and applications including machine learning, Natural Language Processing, deep learning, etc.
  • Works with enterprise Information Technology to mine and analyze data from company databases to drive optimization and improvement of product development and business strategies.
  • Understands data requirements, sources and structure to support technical product development.
  • Designs algorithms supporting validated customer needs, business strategies, internal data strategy, and future product, service and platform development.
  • Develops and implements analytical and predictive models to increase and optimize the customer experience, revenue generation and breakthrough opportunities.

Experience and Education:

  • 2+ years of experience using statistical and other advanced mathematical problem solving, and helping enterprises build data competency and organizational structure combined with a related Master’s degree in applied mathematics, computer science, engineering or statistics-related field or;
  • 5+ years of experience using statistical and other advanced mathematical problem solving, and helping enterprises build data competency and organizational structure combined with a related Bachelor’s degree.
  • Practical experience mining of large data sets including structured and unstructured data, writing advanced algorithms derived from big data infrastructure, and developing predictive and prescriptive analytics models.

Other Skills/Qualifications:

  • Exceptional product and innovation sense.
  • Knowledge in a variety of big data open source products.
  • Knowledge of machine learning to apply machine learning at scale.
  • Knowledge of Natural Language Processing.
  • Excellent teamwork skills with an ability to build relationships across competencies.
  • Ability to drive adoption of data strategy and create buy-in into data-driven opportunities. 
  • Effective communication skills, including data visualization tools and techniques, translating information to non-technical users and presenting to senior leadership.
Physical Requirements

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for extended periods of time. Occasional travel to offsite offices or customer sites may also be required, depending on assignment.
