Position Summary
Are you a hands-on technical innovator with a natural curiosity for how things work—and how they can work better? If so, J. J. Keller is hiring a Process Automation Leader to drive the technical design and development of automation proofs-of-concept and solutions from idea through implementation. This role partners closely with business units, BPI teams, and technology stakeholders to identify opportunities and deliver impactful results.
The Process Automation Leader is specifically focused on leveraging Business Process Automation (BPA), Robotic Process Automation (RPA), and Machine Learning (ML) / Artificial Intelligence (AI) to increase internal workforce efficiency by reducing or eliminating manual processes. Acting as a strategic advisor and advocate, this role helps shape automation architecture while staying ahead of rapidly evolving technologies. Success requires a blend of strong technical aptitude, analytical thinking, and a curiosity-driven mindset to explore new approaches, test assumptions, and continuously improve how work gets done.
Job Responsibilities
- Builds relationships to gain an understanding of internal processes with guidance from customers, departments/business units, BPI teams, and general subject matter experts to identify inefficient process and waste with opportunities for automation.
- Develops project list and prioritizes across the business based on opportunities.
- Provides guidance on relevant RPA/BPA/ML/AI technologies and sets the direction for best approach for prioritized scenarios deemed as candidates for automation improvement.
- Champions/advocates for automation broadly across the business and communicates success.
- Leads and develops enhanced solutions using appropriate technology to solve for automation needs.
- Analyzes current automation footprint to understand and evaluate success or need for improvement, resulting in a reduction of FTE hours.
- Builds data visualizations to communicate broad and complex data in simple, relevant, actionable ways.
- Builds relationships with third party vendors of relevant automation technologies to build POCs to qualify new technologies. Shares learnings and recommendations with receiving departments/business units and technical associates.
- Builds and communicates vision and strategy as the landscape of Automation / ML / AI shifts to stay in front of the technology.
- Communicates with third party vendors, end users, customers and internal product stakeholders on systems requirements, enhancements, and recommendations to support business direction.
- Develops and maintains a solid understanding of the technology tools and trends and remains current in new technology developments and their potential impact on the department.
Qualifications
Experience
- 5+ years of progressive experience in analysis, technical design, coding, then testing and simulation of applications, with at least 3 years in automation technologies including ML/AI.
- Experience working with RPA/BPA tools such as Quickbase.
- Experience with relational database design desirable.
- Experience with API design and RESTful API Design / web services desirable.
- Experience building applications with Microsoft Azure desirable.
- Experience mentoring others and organizations on technical issues.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or technology-related field preferred, demonstrated success and experience will be considered in leu of formal education.
Computer Skills
- Command of process automation tools.
- Working knowledge of programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, SQL, HTML, C#, Python.
- Working knowledge of ML / AI tools desirable.
- Understanding of SQL Server development and database structures.
Other Requirements
- Advanced MS Excel skills, such as macros and pivot tables.
- Ability to learn and utilize a variety of software applications. Strong technical aptitude.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels.
- Systems analysis and design skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate technical and non-technical issues with customers, vendors, and product stakeholders at various levels.

Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for extended periods of time.
